It was in the dreary month of June 2011 that we made an offer on a 'renovators delight' in Ballarat, we moved in just before Christmas later that year, after my husband had spent most of his weekends gutting the front part of the house. Walls were gutted, old floral carpet pulled up, wall & underfloor insulation installed, new plasterboard, hydronic heating (a present to ourselves for moving to Ballarat), a lick of paint, floorboards sanded and stained and new carpets to bedrooms, enough so that everything was liveable for stage one! Finally after spending two years with a laundry outside (not fun in a Ballarat winter and especially not when you are pregnant!) we began stage two of the renovations. Stage Two began March 2014, this time under the trusty eye of builder, Steve Quilliam. Nine months later saw us move back into our beautiful family home! One thing that we are really happy with and well worth spending the extra money on is the double glazing to all new windows and doors and the insulation to the ceiling, under the floor and in the walls. It has made such a difference in our first summer here, we have barely used the air-conditioner, hopefully it will be the same in winter!
